History

The "Division for Water Resources Planning & Investigation for the South of Vietnam" was established upon Decree No.152/HĐBT dated on 10 Dec 1981 of Council of Ministers with the name "Hydrogeological Division 8" (Division 8). According to Decree No 895/QĐ-TCCB dated 20 Jun 1997 of the Ministry of Industry, the Division 8 was renamed as the "Southern Hydrogeological and Engineering Geological Division". On 12 Jun 2008, with Decree No 1233 /QĐ-BTNMT of the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment, the "Southern Hydrogeological and Engineering Geological Division" was renamed as The "Division for Water Resources Planning & Investigation for the South of Vietnam". At present, it leads to the strong belief and respect on "Division 8" placed by local and foreign partners during their cooperation for mutual benefit.

Main fields of Activities
  1. Planning, investigation, reconnaissance, exploration and exploitation of water resources (including thermal water, mineral water and mineral mud).
  2. Design and implementation of soil investigation, soil base and foundation reinforcement. 
  3. Formulation and implementation of projects for asking exploitation licenses of water and mineral resources.
  4. Groundwater exploitation drilling.
  5. Construction of production wells, drinking water and waste water treatment systems, industrial and domestic water supply systems. 
  6. Environmental geological and geothermal investigation, environmental impact assessment.

  7. Groundwater monitoring.

  8. Geophysical investigation, application of nuclear techniques to water resources investigation and assessment of water source pollution.

  9. Mechanical services and special equipment, material supply.

  10. Mapping and GIS technology services, topographical and cadastral survey on various scales.

  11. Establishment of topographical, water resources, geological, engineering geological and environmental geological databases.

  12. Consultancy on designing and supervising for fields of water resources, geology, engineering geology, environmental geology and geodesy .

  13. Implementation of scientific and technological research projects. Technology application and transfer.
